Until recently I have never used a casein protein product but while visiting a fitness expo I was given a few free sachets of casein from a top brand. I really enjoyed the thickness of the shake and it really did taste good. So I read through the benefits and thought to myself ‘why was I using whey protein during the day and before bed when casein is a much better option’
In general we advise to eat slow release carbs such as wholemeal rice and oats so why should it be different with a protein shake. A typical Whey protein is best used post workout because it’s designed to digest fast to refuel your body and start the rebuilding process. Casein however is a much slower release so not great post workout but ideal before bed to feed your body while asleep and any tim e between meals to bump up your protein intake.
I have been using Fitness Authority’s Platinum Micellar Casein and I have not looked back. It has great flavors and mixes really well with a nice thick texture. I would highly recommend to take it before bed to help stop cravings as this is where I struggle the most but since using this product I have been as good as gold.
What Fitness Authority Say…
Micellar casein gives you a slow release of amino acids because of its unique digestive properties. While whey proteins are the best for immediately post workout, Micellar Casein is the perfect tim e release protein. It forms a gel in the stomach, slowing the tim e in the digestive system thus slowing the breakdown of the protein into the vital amino acids your muscles need.
This makes it the ultim ate source when a slow and lengthy supply of protein is needed. The micellar casein provided by Fitness Authority is manufactured by ultra filtration of skimmed milk - this process gets rid of any excess lactose and fat.
Platinum Micellar Casein is enhanced with the digestive enzyme Aminogen to ensure your body gets every amino acid available. Casein inhibits muscle breakdown by 34% over a 7 hour period.
Blood plasma amino acid concentrations remained higher over a 7 hour period with casein compared to whey – showing its slow release benefits! Blood plasma amino acid concentrations dropped dramatically after 3 hours in the group consuming whey.

Conclusion…
Overall this is a good product that does what it says on the tin, I will be using a casein product from now on along with a whey protein post workout. This product is also ideal for people wishing to drop fat because it really does fill you up and stop cravings, well it did for me anyway. There are so other really good brands out their but I have found this to be the most cost effective without the drop in substance.
Micellar casein has seen much increase in its demand in the recent years as a sports supplement. The presence of high quantity and naturally occurring bioactive components glutamine, immuno-supportive properties, and growth factors reason the popularity of Casein. Thanks a lot.
